How Our Variety of Denture Options Boost Confidence and Change Your Life

Benefits of dentures

High quality dentures can change not only your smile–but your life.

For people who may have tooth loss, smiling can make them feel self conscious. Not only that, but missing even one tooth can have a detrimental effect on the rest of your teeth, your oral health in general, and even your whole-body health. Dr. Robert Robinson III and the team at Valley Dental Clinic can help lift your confidence with dentures that can change your life.

Who needs dentures?

Dentures are available to patients who have lost most or all of their teeth, usually through some sort of trauma, like a car crash or a fall, from tooth decay, or even from periodontal disease.

What type of denture options does Valley Dental Clinic offer?

At Valley Dental Clinic, complete denture, partial denture, and implant-supported denture options are available to our patients. Dr. Robinson will sit down with each patient and come up with a plan of action that will help restore their smile.

Complete dentures are used when the patient is missing all of their teeth, and partial dentures are used to fill in the gaps between natural teeth and missing teeth. These denture options rest on top of the gums, and both types of these denture options are removable and can be taken out of the mouth for cleaning.

Implant-supported dentures are a more permanent fixture in your mouth. Implant-supported dentures are anchored into the mouth with titanium screws that are placed into the jaw bone. These are the most secure type of denture because they are permanently in place in the wearer’s mouth. These types of denture options act like your natural teeth, and need the same daily maintenance of brushing and flossing that natural teeth do, as well as regular checkups at your dentist’s office.

Implant-supported dentures are becoming the most popular choice among dentists and denture wearers because of their security. Implant-supported dentures also help to stop jaw bone deterioration because the implant-supported denture stimulate the bone that is already there.

How are dentures made?

Dentures are often made of a strong acrylic or nylon polymer, and the base of a denture is created to match the natural color of your gums. Your dentist will take a mold of your mouth and create a custom set of teeth, specifically to fit the curvature of your mouth perfectly. The denture is carved out and shaped by the dentist, and set in the acrylic.

After the denture is ready, your dentist will then fit it to your mouth. Because of how gum tissue and the jaw bone heal after tooth extraction or loss, it may take a few weeks for the dentures to fit comfortably, and you may have to visit your dentist’s office multiple times for adjustments until the fit is just right.

How can this treatment change your life?

If you and your dentist have chosen dentures as a way to help address tooth loss, there are many benefits to choosing this tooth restoration, from health benefits to psychological benefits.

First, dentures can improve your smile. What do people notice first? Your smile! With dentures, the wearer often smiles more because they feel confident in having a complete set of teeth again—and that can increase your self esteem and confidence.

Dentures can also improve your speech. Because this treatment helps to fill out the cheeks and provide support in the jaw, you will be able to speak more clearly. This can translate to better enunciation and speaking more confidently, both at work, home, and in your social interactions.

Your diet can also change with the addition of dentures. With tooth loss, people sometimes find that their food options are severely restricted because of the gaps in their gums.. With dentures, while you will still need to avoid very hard foods like popcorn kernels or tougher foods like well-done steak, your dietary choices become much broader than if you were still missing teeth.

This also improves your nutrition and overall health, thanks to the wider range of choices, which gives you access to a greater selection of vitamins and minerals essential for a healthy body. Dining out or with friends also becomes much more enjoyable, because dentures allow you to enjoy many more of your favorite food choices.

Another benefit of dentures is the re-emergence of your smile in photos. This treatment often boosts the confidence of the wearer, so you may find yourself enjoying life and smiling more in the photos you take!
