Zirconia Crowns Can Improve Your Smile and Confidence

Zirconia crowns for a professional smile

The act of smiling has so many health benefits. When you smile, you release dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin hormones, which make you feel good. In fact, even if you aren’t feeling well, taking a second to smile can give you relief from whatever is getting you down.

But when we’re not proud of our smile, we’re far less likely to flash those pearly white teeth.

In particular, not smiling can create challenges for those in the workforce. People can view you as less confident, approachable, and trustworthy. So what do you do if your smile is less than what you want it to be? And what options do you have for a decayed, discolored, cracked, or slightly misaligned tooth? The answer lies in zirconia crowns.

How can a zirconia crown help your professional smile?

Let’s start with understanding a little about smile psychology. After all, we smile when we are happy, we frown when we’re sad, and if we’re angry, we can exhibit a scowl or other facial expressions that start with how you position your mouth. While frowning, scowling, and other facial expressions don’t require teeth, the best smiles demand that you flash those pearly whites.

Having a beautiful smile can provide many advantages:

  • You’ll appear more approachable and friendly.
  • You’ll feel more confident in the workplace.
  • Your chances of getting a raise and promotion are higher (who wants to promote someone who is frowning and grumpy all the time?).
  • Your relationships will be more successful romantically, personally, and professionally.
  • You will find that you are in a better mood more often than not, and your mental health will be better.
  • You’ll smile more, which can provide many health benefits, such as decreased stress, lower blood pressure, reduced pain and discomfort, a stronger immune system, and a more positive disposition overall.

Ultimately, when you have a beautiful smile, you are more likely to smile, laugh, and converse with others. This combination makes you appear friendlier and more approachable. Not only that, but when people see you smiling, more often than not, they will assume you are more fun to be around. Smiles are infectious too. So if you are smiling, the chances are that your smile will rub off on others, and before long, they’ll be smiling too. This means that your smile can actually help others be healthier.

Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? So if you have a decayed, discolored, cracked, or slightly misaligned tooth, how can a zirconia crown help?

What is a zirconia crown?

The visible part of your natural teeth, that portion above the gum line, are called your crowns. This is the part of the teeth that others see when you smile. So if your teeth are decayed, misshapen, or have some other problem, people are likely to notice when you smile. Dentists will often treat these dental issues with a dental crown. Gold and metal alloys were used for a long time, but porcelain crowns have started to grow in popularity because they have a natural appearance.

Zirconia crowns, on the other hand, are newer to the dental field and are a great solution for patients because they combine the split-resistant strength of metal with a color variation that can match your natural teeth.

What is the procedure like if I get a zirconia crown?

In most cases, your zirconia crown treatment will span the course of two visits to our office in Wasilla, Alaska. At your first visit, Dr. Robinson or Dr. Lyerly will use special dental tools to shape your tooth so that it can successfully support your new dental crown. One of our dental technicians will take an impression of your teeth, which will be sent to our offsite laboratory. We’ll place a temporary crown to protect and seal your existing tooth while your new custom zirconia crown is designed and created.

At your next visit, we’ll remove the temporary crown and clean your teeth. Then, we’ll check the fit of your new crown before fitting it securely over your natural tooth. We’ll use a special bonding agent that will ensure your zirconia crown is snug. Before you know it, you’ll have that professional smile so that you can flash your teeth confidently again.
